The following groups are eligible for a NHS flu vaccination:
- All children aged 2 or 3 on 31 August 2024 (born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2022)
- All school children (from Reception to Year 11)
- Those aged 6 months to under 65 years in clinical risk groups (see Green Book for risk groups)
- Pregnant women (including those women who become pregnant during the flu season)
- Those aged 65 years and over (by 31st March 2025)
- Those in long-stay residential care homes
- Carers in receipt of carer's allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person
- Close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
- Frontline workers in a social care setting without an employer led occupational health scheme, including those working for a registered residential care or nursing home, registered domiciliary care providers, voluntary managed hospice providers and those that are employed by those who receive direct payment (personal budgets) or Personal Health budgets, such as Personal Assistants* and locum GPs.
Notes:
Those aged 50 - 64 year who do not fall into any of the cohorts above are NOT eligible for NHS flu vaccines.
The above cohorts are those which are eligible under the NHS vaccination programme and are eligible for vaccination under the services offered by primary care and other NHS service providers. All other frontline healthcare staff are also eligible for vaccination via their employer as part of the occupational health service.
