Portsmouth City Council joins campaign to help stop smoking, feel happier campaign

Did you know? stopping smoking helps to reduce anxiety, depression and stress? wellbeing service poster

Portsmouth is taking part in a new South East wide campaign launching ahead of the New Year to challenge the long-held belief that smoking helps relieve stress. The Stop Smoking, Feel Happier campaign highlights growing evidence that quitting not only benefits physical health but can also boost mood and wellbeing within weeks.

Alongside 17 other local authorities, Portsmouth is supporting activity across the region to spark conversations about happiness, stress, and the science behind how stopping smoking helps the
brain rebalance dopamine, the ‘happy hormone’ that smoking suppresses.

We would like to encourage people that smoke who live or work in PO1 – PO6 to access the free support available via the Portsmouth Wellbeing Service. They can help you live healthier and
happier lives, and will work with you on your quit in your way.
